BETTERMENTS BRING OPERATING EFFICIENCY

PHYSICAL improvements so comprehensive and costly justify themselves in operating records showing higher efficiency. This has been the case on the Rio Grande, where the current year already has set new records. Train service on the main line for the month of January was the best on record. Marked improvement was noted in both passenger and freight service, the most notable being in the operation of manifest freight trains.
With the Rio Grande sharing to a larger degree than ever in the transportation of through freight, this reflection of physical improvement in better operation is of vital

importance. The approach of the summer tourist season finds the road in a position to handle a larger volume of passenger business safely, smoothly and expeditiously as a result of this broad policy of constant upbuilding and rebuilding of the physical agencies.
The Rio Grande is one of the largest western wool originating lines. Most of the wool goes to Boston. In 1926 the Rio Grande handled more than twenty million pounds.
