$2,000,000. This work has been completed or is
under way in the following localities:
Between Husted and Pikeview, Co1orado, where
the curvature is reduced from 6 degrees to 2 degrees.
Between Parkdale, the first station west
of the Royal Gorge, and Salida, Colorado, where the curvature
has been acute, reduction is being made from 12 degrees to a maximum
of 6 degrees. To accomplish this it has been necessary to change
the channel of the Arkansas River in a number of places.
In the Brown Caņon, west of Salida, Colorado,
the curvature is being reduced from 10 degrees to a maximum of
6 degrees.
On the east side of Tennessee Pass the curvature has been reduced
to a maximum of 6 degrees.
When this work is completed there will be no curves over six degrees
in the territory Parkdale to Tennessee Pass, Colorado, a distance
of approximately 110 miles.
Between Minturn and Eagle, Colorado, the changes will result in
a maximum curvature of 6 degrees, and between Mack, Colorado,
and Westwater, Utah, through Ruby Caņon, the curves will be reduced
to a maximum of 4 degrees

of heavy curvature in canons, reduction
of grades, installation of steel or concrete bridges and culverts
and new ties, laying of new and heavier rail, distribution of ballast,
and the erection of safeguarding signal devices which silently and
automatically keep constant vigilance over moving trains. What is
it all for? Just this: The Denver & Rio Grande Western is being
operated under a policy of maximum service to the public - the limit
of safety, convenience and speed-and expeditious handling of traffic,
freight and passenger, all commensurate with wisdom and a reasonable
regard for those whose money is invested in the property.
